Reviewed October 10, 2026. Compatible Canon APS-C DSLRs accept EF-S and EF lenses. They do not accept RF or RF-S lenses directly. An EF lens gives a narrower field of view here than on full frame.
This shortlist is a starting point based on lens purpose and mount. We have not tested every lens listed. Prices and stock vary; compare the exact model, mount, seller, condition and return policy. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
Portraits
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM
Mount: Canon EF. A simple prime to consider for portraits and available-light work. On a crop-sensor DSLR it gives a tighter view than on full frame.
A fixed focal length cannot replace a zoom; check your working distance.
Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM
Mount: Canon EF. A short telephoto portrait option when you have room to step back from your subject.
Indoors or on a crop-sensor body its field of view can be tight.
Landscapes and interiors
Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM
Mount: Canon EF-S. A wide-angle choice designed for Canon APS-C DSLRs.
Do not mount an EF-S lens on an incompatible full-frame DSLR.
Wildlife and distant subjects
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM
Mount: Canon EF. A long zoom to compare for wildlife when subject distance varies.
Check size, weight and your required shutter speed before choosing a long lens.
Night and low light
Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM
Mount: Canon EF. A wide prime for night work and environmental scenes on full frame.
Its large aperture does not remove the need for careful focusing and a stable camera.

Street photography
Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

A variable maximum aperture is a compromise for indoor action and low light.
