Top Result: Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED Lens

Pros

  • Sharp wide open (needed for night photography)
  • 2 aspherical elements to fix coma
  • Excellent focal length for including foregrounds
  • Lightweight

Cons

  • No image stabilization (but that doesn't matter since this is for night photography?)

Note From Jim

Get the Nikon 20mm f/1.8. It's fast, it's wide, it's well-built, it's relatively inexpensive, and unlike most lenses, it's sharp wide open. It's a definite "buy." But you may also want to consider just using the Tamron 15-30 f/2.8 or the Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 as they are decently fast apertured lenses that will also serve your landscape photography needs.

Pros

  • Does not autofocus
  • Good sharpness
  • Very fast aperture
  • Slightly too long of a focal length for some night photos
  • Much less expensive than the Nikon version

Cons

  • Does not autofocus!
  • A little overpriced for a third-party manual-focus-only lens
