If you are going to spend a lot of money on a fast prime for portraits, it may as well be on the 85mm f/1.2L. But there's a SERIOUS WARNING I have to give with it--only the very most experienced photographers should choose it. f/1.2 at 85mm produces razor thin depth of field, and if your focus technique isn't perfect, you'll get soft shots all day long. You could always back off to f/2, but I know you won't :-)
