Top Result: Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II Lens

Match Score

91%

Pros

  • Extremely fast aperture
  • Great optics
  • Excellent build quality

Cons

  • Not as wide as I like for night photos with foreground elements
  • Expensive

Note From Jim

If you do not already have a Canon 16-35mm or a Tamron 15-30, I would probably spend the money on one of those lenses first because they will be excellent for both landscapes and night photography. If you already have a quality wide angle lens, then it's tough to beat the Canon 24mm f/1.4 because of its very fast aperture.

Option 2: Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8

Match Score

91%

Pros

  • Image stabilization
  • Inexpensive
  • Excellent landscape lens
  • Extremely sharp
  • Constant aperture

Cons

  • A fast lens, but not as fast as some primes
  • A tiny bit less sharp at 30mm
  • Heavy
  • Does not accept filters (but you don't need them for night photography anyway)
