Note From Jim
My first choice would be the Canon 85mm f/1.8. It's just BARELY over your budget, but you can pick this lens up used for well under your budget. I personally prefer the 85mm focal length--even on a crop sensor camera--to the 50mm lens which is more popular. The 85mm focal length gives a little more space between the photographer and subject, and gives even shallower depth of field. But I'm in the minority. Most photographers would prefer you buy the 50mm lens. It's popular for a reason! At only $120, it's an unbelievably good value for a nice lens.
