Writing for Improve Photography

ImprovePhotography.com is going through a major overhaul, and I couldn’t be more excited about the changes that are coming.  Lots of new features are going to be released shortly, but the most important change is that we’re going to start publishing a new article every single day.  Currently, it's more like 2 or 3 articles per week.

If you are passionate about photography, I’m inviting you to write articles for the site–and get paid for it!  You don’t have to have a Ph.D. in English or be a professional photographer.  All we require is that you’re passionate about photography and have reasonably proficient writing abilities.

We need writers who are dyed-in-the-wool photography nerds.  If you're addicted to keeping up on photo news, love trying new photography techniques, etc, then this is the perfect outlet for you.

Writing for Improve Photography is incredibly rewarding because every word you write will be read by photographers around the world.  Improve Photography attracts millions of photographers, so the best writers can become well-known in the industry.

Improve Photography pays its columnists according to the following pay schedule.

pay-scale

We ask that MOST articles be at least 2,000 words, so most contributors will be earning $80 per month.

PLEASE DO NOT APPLY to be a columnist on the site if you cannot commit to writing two articles per month.  You'll be given a publishing deadline (first and third Thursday of each month, for example), and we need people who can stick to their schedule without needing reminders and prodding.  Those who miss publishing days or who slop together articles will lose their column spots and will be replaced.

As you work on your articles, we'll have a private Facebook group just for the contributors to bounce ideas off each other and Jim.  You'll work close with Jim as you work on your articles and will get to know him well.  He's a great resource for when you have writer's block and can't think of a good article topic!

If you want to commit to a column to write twice per month on Improve Photography, email Jim at [email protected].  Tell him about yourself, link to some of your best photos, and tell him why you want to write.  He'll respond with the next steps.

Thank you!

The Improve Photography Team

  1. Hey Guys,
Thanks for the podcast and site!
I’ve been doing astrophotography for at least ten years, and then recently got interested in fine art photography. I have a good technical knowledge of cameras, lenses, and digital imaging. I saw in one article you mention focus “peeking” it’s actually focus “peaking” where the focus peaks with the highest contrast. In any case, I’d love to write articles for you guys. I already have a blog with several articles on it. (link provided) You can check out my writing style and the topics I’m familiar with. I was also working on an article on how depth of field, ISO and crop factor relate to each other. I’ve already taken the sample images. I’m super passionate about photography. This week I’m in New York City doing some street and cityscape work. ‘-)

  2. Jim, I would be interested in being a contributor. You are aware of my photo skills. I am now retired so I have the time and my background was a career in marketing where creative writing was a major component. I would love to focus on photo locations, but would happy to tackle any subject matter. My e mail is [email protected]
